Armistice Day

Armistice Day

At 11.00 hours on Sunday 13th November 2011, members and guests of the Coulsdon Comrades Club stood erect in salute and remembrance of fallen comrades throughout time.

This Club was formed over ninety years ago following the Great War but all are aware that service men and women have given the ultimate sacrifice on many occasions since that time and we remembered them all with equal respect.  On this day, our Service of Remembrance was lead by the Revd. Tim Goode, Curate of Croydon Minster.

Our President recited the hallowed word of the Exhortation to those we have lost over the years.  We remember them.  A Standards Ceremony followed the main service where fellow members of the Royal Navy Association presented their colours for consecration.

During the day we were pleased to receive members of the locally based 41 (Princes Louise’s Kensington) Royal Signals Squadron TA and Mr Richard Ottaway MP and Mrs Ottaway.  Their attendance at our Remembrance Service was greatly appreciated.

The ethos of the Club remains indefatigable but although our roots lie in the Armed Services we have expanded our hand of comradeship throughout our local community.
